John Smitherman is a 1989 graduate of David Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics. John earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in October of 2002, a professional insurance designation awarded by the American Institute for CPCU, an independent, nonprofit educational organization.  He earned his Associate in Claims (AIC) designation, given by the Insurance Institute of America, in July of 2001.  John obtained his Agents License in January 1997.

After serving as an intern for a local investor in 1989, Mr. Smitherman began his professional career with TranSouth Financial Corporation as a manager trainee.  John was responsible for collections, soliciting loan applications, and approving and rejecting potential loans.

In 1992, John accepted a position with Brentwood Services Administrators, Inc. as a Claim Trainee. Following completion of relevant course work and on-the-job training, he was promoted to Claim Representative.  In this position, he was responsible for the investigation, management and resolution of claims for self-insured clients in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas. In addition, his work involved on-site analysis of accidents as well as attendance and participation at Benefit Review Conferences and trials.

In November of 1995, John was promoted to Field Investigator. His duties involved both in-office and on-site investigation and coordination of workers’ compensation claims, as well as settlement negotiation, subrogation investigation, and assisting with client education and development.

In September of 1997, John was promoted to Claim Supervisor. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the work of several claims representatives, while continuing to assist in marketing, adjuster training and client development.  John’s responsibilities were also increased to include the management and oversight of the Montana office.

In March of 2003, John was promoted to Regional Claim Director.  In this role, John was responsible for supervising and directing the work of Brentwood Services’ Montana, Georgia, and North Carolina offices and two adjusters in the Tennessee office.

In January of 2004, as a Regional Account Manager, John’s responsibilities were focused on marketing Brentwood Services’ brokerage and third-party administrator services.  John is also responsible for assisting with building and growing the relationships with Brentwood Services’ current clients.
